Gabelli students meet Warren Buffett

Finance , Smart Woman Securities Stories | Apr 20, 2011 |

Great business leaders come to Fordham to speak all the time. But sometimes, it’s worth it for us to go to them. Students Rebecca Horne and Nicole D’Souza proved that point when they traveled to Omaha, Nebraska, for a Smart Woman Securities trip to meet investing icon Warren Buffett of Berkshire Hathaway.

Smart Woman Securities is a nonprofit that focuses on investing education for undergraduate women. Female Gabelli students founded a chapter this year. Typically, Mr. Buffett only meets with graduate students, but he makes an annual exception for members of this unique student organization. Rebecca and Nicole joined forces in Omaha with SWS representatives from other universities across the country, and the group visited several companies, including ConAgra and TD Ameritrade. They met with executives at each organization — and at TD Ameritrade, that meant Chairman Joe Moglia, who happens to be a Fordham alumnus.

The SWS students heard Mr. Buffett speak during a dinner at his favorite steakhouse, Gorat’s. Click here to see a video of the occasion that was created and posted by SWS — it’s worth it to see what a good time Mr. Buffett seems to be having over steak.
