Student Managed Investment Fund wins for third year

For the past two years, our Student Managed Investment Fund participants took home “Best Hybrid Fund” honors at the Global Asset Management Education (GAME) Forum, sponsored by Quinnipiac University.
This year, the winning streak continued with another victory!
Congratulations to all 24 SMIF students, whose sharp work as managers or analysts resulted in a third consecutive win. Taught by Professor James R. Kelly, SMIF is one of the greatest hands-on finance opportunities the Gabelli School offers: a chance to manage $1 million of Fordham’s real endowment.
Sixty colleges and universities competed in various categories at the Quinnipiac conference held March 20 through 22, 2014 at the Sheraton New York Times Square Hotel.
“The Quinnipiac GAME Forum was an excellent experience because it allowed us to network with other business and economics students from almost every state and dozens of countries,” said Robert Abballe (GSB ’14), managing director of SMIF. “We participated in workshops, such as Credit Default Swaps and Options Trading, and listened to street professionals’ opinions about the state of the global economy, international monetary policies and other topics.” Abballe credits the teamwork and guidance from Professor Kelly for SMIF’s third consecutive win.
