Gabelli students packed a room on campus on April 27 to hear a lecture delivered by Joe Grano, chairman and CEO of Centurion Holdings LLC and former head of UBS Financial Services.
Students came to glean knowledge from Mr. Grano’s business experience, which runs both broad and deep. He was instrumental in helping to bring about the 2000 merger of PaineWebber with UBS, and before that, he worked for 16 years for Merrill Lynch, holding senior management positions that included director of national sales. He is a prior recipient of the “best retail marketing executive” designation awarded annually through a survey conducted by Investment Dealers’ Digest.
Mr. Grano has been involved on the government side as well, being appointed by then-President George W. Bush in 2002 to serve as chairman of the Homeland Security Advisory Council. He held the post until August 2005. Mr. Grano also served in the U.S. Special Forces, known as the Green Berets.
