About Basketball City: New York’s premier “state-of-the-art” sports and entertainment facility contains seven air-conditioned basketball courts complete with glass backboards, electronic scoreboards and first-class locker rooms. In addition to league play, the courts are available for private rentals and special events.

The facility also includes a VIP Mezzanine that will be serving food and beverages, a 40,000+ square-foot parking lot, and a 15,000-square-foot deck on the East River overlooking the Manhattan and Brooklyn Bridges and downtown Brooklyn and Manhattan.

The company runs corporate basketball leagues, youth programs, clinics and summer camps, and it plays host to large and special events with corporate clients including Nike, Target, Volkswagen, Sarah Lee Corp., Heineken, NYC Food and Wine Festival, Google and others.

 

About the internship: The intern will work directly with the Basketball City’s sales director and will focus on business development for corporate clients including corporate leagues.

  • Possible tasks include: conducting prospect research on companies that have athletic programs or athletic directors, finding the right person in large and complex companies, cold-calling companies, communicating and building a rapport with them, soliciting them to visit the site, providing offers of free court time, introducing people to the facility and corporate leagues, and working with expanding the client base.
  • Interpersonal skills are vital; candidates should also have basic computer skills, MS Office; Act! or other contact management database knowledge is a plus but not essential; spreadsheet work is also important.
  • Interns are needed 10 to 20 hours per week, to start immediately.

This internship offers an excellent sales-development experience and an introduction to the sports marketing industry, with potential for excellent networking benefits.
