Four schools at Fordham University will combine efforts to bolster opportunities for real estate education as part of a new initiative to prepare professionals for one of New York City’s burgeoning industries.

The Fordham Initiative in Real Estate (FIRE) includes faculty and administrators from the Gabelli School of Business, Fordham Law School and Fordham Colleges at Rose Hill and Lincoln Center, according to an article on the Fordham News website.

The four schools are involved because the business of real estate employs professionals from all manner of disciplines, said Nestor Davidson, associate dean for academic affairs at the law school and co-director of the Fordham Urban Law Center.

“To be a successful real estate professional today, you have to be able to navigate multiple aspects – marketing, management, finance, law, policy,” Davidson said. “As a university we’re well-suited to build that platform.”

FIRE was unveiled at an event on Wall Street attended by Davidson, Gabelli School of Business Dean Donna Rapaccioli and several other Fordham officials. MaryAnne Gilmartin, FCRH ’86, the president and CEO of Forest City Ratner Companies and a Fordham trustee, also attended.
