Club of Rome inducts Associate Professor Michael Pirson

Michael Pirson, an associate professor who specializes in humanistic management and delivers relevant presentations all over the world, is one of three new inductees into the international think tank known as the Club of Rome.

Established in Italy in 1968, the Club of Rome defines its mission as contributing in a systematic and interdisciplinary manner to a better world. Its primary levers are science, research, education and international partnerships and cooperation.

Among the think tank’s areas of exploration is the shifting relationship of human beings with the global economy. The Club of Rome promotes a “civil economy which is competitive, participative and optimizes resource use” while operating in the public interest.

Anyone who is familiar with Dr. Pirson and his research will hear familiar themes in this phrasing. A leader in Fordham’s initiatives in sustainability education and and a linchpin in the University’s successful 2013 effort to earn the Changemaker Campus designation from the social-innovation organization Ashoka, Dr. Pirson is passionate about developing economic and managerial systems that respect and advance human well-being.

The other two people inducted into the Club of Rome along with Dr. Pirson are the filmmaker and writer Nora Bateson and Petra Kuenkel, executive director and co-founder of the Collective Leadership Institute in Potsdam, Germany. The organization has about 100 members in total.
