Microsoft tags offer a new marketing technique

Marketing | Oct 19, 2010 |

Have you seen the multicolored bar codes at the bottom of Gabelli School fliers posted around campus? Do you know what they are and what they do?

These are Microsoft tags, a form of QR (quick response) code. People with smartphones can scan these codes to immediately load up a web page that pertains to the information on the print advertisement. Some of the Gabelli Microsoft tags take a user to a specific post on GabelliConnect, while others link to a video or photo gallery.

Microsoft tags are easy and free to make and use, so consider them for marketing initiatives of your own — on a student organization flier, a promotion for your friends’ band, or even (who knows?) your résumé!

To download the app:  Go to http://www.gettag.mobi/ from your phone.

To make tags:  Go to http://tag.microsoft.com. Sign up for a free account, or use an existing Hotmail account, and away you go!
