“The Central Business Solutions Competition, open to all majors, affords Fordham University students the unique opportunity to make a business idea come to life with the support of seasoned business professionals.
The goal of the competition is to provide students with the education, skills, contacts and motivation necessary to learn about the managed services industry. One grand prize package consisting of $1,500 and a possible job offer is awarded to the student with the best business plan and presentation. The competition is free to enter.
The process extends through the end of November. The competition consists of three rounds. Feedback and instruction are given for each round, so it is not necessary to have any business background to enter.
Round 1:
Requires a cover letter and résumé to be submitted. These will be reviewed by the HR and sales managers. If accepted to participate in the competition, the student will be notified.
Round 2:
Each student will schedule a series of interviews with business professionals at Central Business Solutions to identify the many aspects of a managed services organization. They will also use the Internet and other resources to learn about best practices in order to increase revenues for one of the company’s three divisions: managed network services, document management, and managed print services.
Final Round:
Each finalist is given comprehensive instructions and support in developing a complete business plan for his/her idea. He/she will be provided with continuous access to the Central Business Solutions team. Each finalist submits a 5-page business plan and then makes a presentation to a panel consisting of the company president and other business executives.
