Gabelli student has dabbled ‘in a little bit of everything’

Rachaita Trivedi, BS ’20, is on a mission.

The first-year student has chosen the global finance and business economics concentration at the Gabelli School of Business and hopes to pursue the six-year BS/JD dual-degree program to become an attorney.

But business and law are only a few of Trivedi’s many interests.

“I tried to dabble in a little bit of everything when I was younger, just to figure out what I liked,” the Manalapan, N.J., resident said.

Trivedi has tried just about every sport imaginable — lacrosse, soccer, tennis, basketball and cricket, to name a few. She was part of a high school debate club and the Model U.N. program. She plays the violin. But she didn’t just join existing organizations. She created new ones.

A history buff, Trivedi started a National History Day competition club at Colts Neck High School, where she also took classes that exposed her to various aspects of law.

Her large family encouraged her curiosity and drive.

“My parents always tell me to be hardworking, dedicated, focused in whatever I do,” she said. “They always supported me with everything and anything I ever wanted to become or do.”

Her interests are different from her parents’, though. Her father works for AT&T, and her mother works for a pharmaceutical company. Trivedi wanted to work in a field other than tech or science.

“I’m kind of like the outcast, going into business and law,” she joked.

Her desire to branch out and discover led her to Fordham.

“It’s the perfect place to learn about different cultures,” she said. “That was a huge aspect of why I picked Fordham.”

Now, this self-described “small-town girl” is looking forward to her experiences at college and in New York.

“I love learning,” she said.
