Gabelli School ’17 graduates look toward the future

Technology has vast potential to transform the business world.

Joe Halpin, BS ’17, and Tongqing Zhang, MS ’17, know this well.

Both graduates chose to focus on technology while working toward their degrees, with Halpin concentrating on information systems and Zhang receiving a master’s in quantitative finance.

Both are putting what they learned to immediate use in the finance industry. Zhang started a full-time analyst position at Morgan Stanley while still in the MSQF program, and Halpin will be working as an analyst at BlackRock.

While commencement is a time to think about what’s coming next, for one undergraduate, it was also an opportunity to recall the past.

When Shannon Harman, BS ’17, walked across the stage to receive her diploma on May 20, she was joined by not just one but two of her sisters. Both of Harman’s older sisters also graduated from the Gabelli School—one last year, and one the year before.
