Spread joy on campus with secret compliments on FB

Kind words go a long way.

That’s what students at Queen’s University in Ontario were thinking when they started a Facebook page dedicated to posting positive sentiments about other members of their campus community—anonymously.

Inspired by the idea, two Fordham students followed suit—along with students at many other universities across the U.S. and Canada— and launched Fordham Compliments on Facebook.

Just visit the Fordham Compliments Facebook page to receive and post compliments and messages of appreciation to your friends and mentors. The person complimented will be tagged and your identity will be kept secret.

With nearly 3,900 friends, Fordham Compliments is gaining momentum, with posts complimenting anonymous strangers (“to the guy who was playing piano at the McGinley Ballroom, you are amazing”); peers (“you are the sweetest angel to grace this campus”); and friends (“you are so nice, you always have a smile on your face”). The reaction? One student said the compliment is going to “get me through finals week” while another replied that the post “made my day.”

The founders of Fordham Compliments recently announced—anonymously—a special senior project dedicated to the class of ’14. “We hope to collect a compliment for EVERY member of the senior class,” they stated on their website. “So submit now, and submit often. Submit not just for campus “celebs” but for everyone from the class of 2014 who has ever touched your life.”
