Success story: Vonmarie Thomas on Brazilian bread and BDO
Success Stories | Apr 15, 2014 | Claire Curry
When Vonmarie Thomas (GSB ’14) traveled to Brazil as part of her Emerging Markets Financial Modeling course, she didn’t only learn about finance. She discovered the joy of Pao de Queijo, the signature cheese bread of Brazil, which she has since learned to make in her own kitchen.
Vonmarie will apply the same recipe for success to the position she’ll begin in October an associate at the international public accounting firm BDO.
She says she’s most excited to learn about BDO’s clients and to work with great people. “I will be working with BDO professionals and management making sure that our clients are reporting their financial statements reasonably by addressing potentially material misstatements,” she said. “I’ll establish a strong knowledge base I can leverage in the future.”
In addition to summer internships at Bloomberg, the Better Business Bureau and Ernst and Young, Vonmarie has, during her years at Fordham, become deeply rooted in ALPFA, the Association of Latino Professionals in Finance and Accounting, moving up from member to the role of president. Today, she is an advisor to the executive board. She is also involved in the campus community through her work with Residential Life for the past four years.
“Fordham will always be my home,” Vonmarie said. “I have enjoyed the great people, beautiful campus, learning opportunities and close proximity to the headquarters of different companies in New York.”
Congratulations and best of luck in your new position, Vonmarie!
