Success story: Suliman Al Aujan to intern at Credit Suisse

Success Stories | May 06, 2014 |

SuliAfter working for Bank of America Merrill Lynch for three terms beginning in his freshman year, Suliman Al Aujan (GSB ’15) discovered his interest lies in alternative investments.

“Through my involvement in the Alternative Investment Club at Fordham, I network with some of the brightest minds on Wall Street,” he explained.

Credit Suisse was among the firms that gave presentations to the club, and Suliman was captivated. “I took the liberty to apply and get to know more about Credit Suisse’s business and learned that a big part of their hedge funds business resides in the United Arab of Emirates.”

He leveraged this knowledge by shaping his understanding of the Middle East market and Arabic language skills into a competitive advantage during his interview for the summer analyst internship, and his intuition proved him right: these skills helped distinguish Suliman from other qualified candidates, many from Ivy League institutions. He acquired much of his international background from attending school in Saudia Arabia, England and Switzerland before arriving at Fordham in 2011. Suliman is currently a resident of Dubai and Riyadh.

“I learned throughout my experiences at Merrill Lynch and Fordham that one has to be passionate, hungry and determined towards his career goals,” he said. Suliman looks forward to the internship because his experience he’ll gain in alternative investments will help him move closer to his career goal which is to work in private equity.

The ten-week internship, which begins in June and is located in New York City, he added, will be challenging and interesting. “Working on the institutional side of alternative investments is what I am looking forward to and I hope I can springboard my Middle Eastern background to well serve and add value to the firm.”

Congratulations and we wish you the best, Suliman!
