Jeff Bolte (GSB '15)Eight years of German study and a major in finance will pay off in May when Jeffrey Bolte (GSB ’15) travels to Munich to begin a summer internship with KPMG.

Bolte was selected from a pool of candidates to work in the firm’s Financial Services Tax-Real Estate division.

“I’ve studied German for years but I’ve never visited the country,” he said. “I can’t wait to go.” Bolte looks forward to learning about the structure of real estate deals—experience that aligns with his plans for a career in real estate finance—in a division that advises German companies that own or are buying or selling real estate in America.

The opportunity surfaced thanks to Marianne Washburn, Bolte’s German professor at Fordham, who told him about a program with the American Chamber of Commerce that allows students to intern with companies in Germany for the summer. He applied and landed the KPMG gig.

This Garden City, Long Island native says he looks forward to sightseeing and visiting Frankfurt and Berlin, and learning more about the history of a country whose language he’s studied for a good part of his life.

Bolte, an athlete who is captain of the club lacrosse team at Fordham, says his interest in German began in sixth grade when he studied the language under a “great teacher” who set the foundations for him to excel in high school. He was so prepared when he entered Chaminade High School as a freshman that he began at the sophomore level—the only freshman in the class.

Today, he says he is “approaching fluency” in the language, and that living and working in Germany will be a great opportunity to practice what he’s learned daily. It will also expand Bolte’s résumé which already includes internships at Bank of America Merrill Lynch and SterlingRisk Insurance on Long Island.
