Nicholas Hardiman’s senior year at the Gabelli School of Business is starting off in Ann Arbor, Mich.
As an intern in one of Google’s biggest sales offices, Hardiman will be spending the next three months working with the online giant to maximize the results of small- to medium-size business advertisers.
In his job, Hardiman will help track AdWords ad campaigns, using analytics to make sure the campaigns are working as efficiently as possible.
“I’m going to be doing something different basically every day,” said Hardiman, 21, who comes from Plymouth, Mass. “I’m going to be working with different clients and helping them problem-solve and troubleshoot. It won’t be too repetitious or redundant, and I think that’s kind of exciting.”
Hardiman, a business administration major with a primary concentration in marketing, found his job through Google’s online career page. The application process itself was simple, but follow-up interviews tested his ability to work in teams and deal with challenging issues.
Once he was accepted, Google placed him in Ann Arbor, where he will work about 40 hours a week for the company. He will not be taking classes during that time.
He won’t even fall behind in his classwork while working in Ann Arbor.
“Luckily I overloaded,” Hardiman said. A combination of Advanced Placement credits and summer classes helped him to get ahead. “So I’m actually going to be graduating on time.”
