Success story: Merrill Lynch hires Janine Nipal for internship

Success Stories | Nov 07, 2012 |

With three prior internships under her belt, Janine Nipal (GSB ’14) is now an intern in Merrill Lynch’s private wealth management division — and, in what turned out to be a very pleasant surprise, is working with a Fordham alumnus.

Janine kept a very open mind when approaching internships, taking on a variety of positions to help her figure out which path in business is the right one for her. She started out small, assisting with marketing and business development at a startup called Golden Networking. This past summer, she went big, joining the retail leasing group at Massey Knakal Realty Services, a giant force in the world of New York City real estate. Janine then took an internship this semester in the private wealth management department at Aegis Capital, where she did extensive research on international companies and markets, analyzed trading strategies and provided office support.

Wealth management is a thread Janine will carry over to her new position at Merrill Lynch, where she will be working under Nick DeMatteis (GSB ’99), a Merrill financial advisor. Janine didn’t know until her interview that she’d be working with a fellow Ram, but it was very welcome news. It turns out Mr. DeMatteis used to be an RA in Hughes Hall, which is, of course, now the home of the Gabelli School.

A business administration major with a concentration in finance, Janine is looking forward to working for a Fortune 500 company and getting additional experience in wealth management. We at the Gabelli School wish her great success and send a warm Gabelli-School-family hello to her new supervisor!
