Success story: Christopher McCloskey nabs internship as freshman

Wasting no time in building his résumé, Christopher McCloskey (GSB ’15) has been selected for a summer 2012 slot with Northwestern Mutual, where he will be a financial representative intern.
Chris is looking forward to the opportunity because he’ll receive the same training as full-time hires, only on a limited schedule. Before he starts, he’ll take a four-day New York State pre-licensing course for life, accident and health insurance. He will then report to the company’s offices in Melville, New York, where he’ll consult with clients, organize appointments, learn the ropes of the personal, business and estate analysis markets, and get one-on-one training from Northwestern mentors.
“I will not be making copies or getting coffee,” Chris said. That’s something we all can appreciate. Chris said the internship especially appealed to him because Vault has named it one of “America’s Top 10 Internships” for the last 15 consecutive years.
Northwestern Mutual’s program also will help Chris to figure out which major he might want to choose at the end of the next school year, he said: “My internship will give me the opportunity at a very young age to see if I want to pursue finance.”
Chris credits the Fordham career and internship fair for introducing him to Northwestern Mutual. He ran quite the gauntlet to land the position: two interviews, a personality test and a mini-trial of his skills. We are sure it will be worth it. Congratulations, Chris!
