On February 11, the Gabelli School of Business at Fordham University London will be kicking off a new weekly series, the Gabelli School London Speaker Series: Business Perspectives from Europe. Each Thursday, the international virtual speaker series will feature one-hour sessions that focus on a variety of global business topics, allowing students and other members of the Fordham community to network and learn from professionals located throughout Europe.
The series will run through April 29, 2021 and was developed by Meghann Drury-Grogan, Associate Professor of Communications and Media Management at Fordham University London, and Andrea Mennillo, Chairman of the Fordham University London Advisory Board, in coordination with Dean Rapaccioli. It has been in development since October 2020 following the success of the Future of Business Education conference.
“The speaker series was developed to let us highlight business perspectives from across Europe and to give students an opportunity to network internationally, particularly when they cannot travel,” said Dr. Drury-Grogan.
The initial session of the London Speaker Series is entitled “Current Internationalization Strategies for Business: Expanding from Germany to the UK.” The event will feature Torsten Wulf, the Chair of Strategic and International Management and Academic Director of MBA at Philipps University of Marburg; Franziska Neumann, a Research Associate in Strategic and International Management at Philipps University of Marburg; and Alexis Peseau, EMBA ’22. The session will focus on an internationalization strategy that students from Philipps University of Marburg, a partner of Fordham, created for a German company seeking to expand into the United Kingdom.
Additional upcoming sessions include “How Organizations Achieve Net Zero: Designing a Robust Strategy for Climate Impact Ambitions,” “Britain & the Post-Brexit World,” and “Preparing Ireland’s Enterprise Sector for the Future of Work.” The events will feature discussions led by business executives and political leaders located throughout Europe.
Each session of the London Speaker Series will take place on Thursday during the free block period from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. EST, providing students located in the United States with the flexibility to attend. The events are open to the Gabelli School community—including more than 40,000 alumni throughout the globe—as well as the Fordham University community.
As an added benefit, students who attend four live sessions will receive a certificate of participation, which they can list on their resumes.
“Even though we cannot travel due to the COVID pandemic, it is important that we maintain our awareness and involvement in international discussions as business continues globally,” said Dr. Drury-Grogan.
“We are all interconnected, and this series offers an opportunity for us to engage with leadership in various aspects of business to learn their perspectives and network when we cannot do those things in person just now.”
