Take a closer look at European business through Poland tour
Graduate students interested in media and technology have a chance coming up to earn elective credits while visiting Poland.
A summer-term course called Media and Technology Industries in Poland and Central Europe takes students to Krakow, one of the country’s largest metropolises. There, students learn about business, geopolitical, and regulatory issues central to the region.
“One of the biggest benefits for students is how they are exposed to problems in life and business in central and eastern Europe,” said Bozena Mierzejewska, assistant professor and creator of the course. “There are many opportunities [for students] to speak to other people of a similar age with similar career ambitions in a very different part of the world.”
The trip features meetings with CEOs and visits to media startups, radio stations, magazine companies, and venture-capital investors. Students also tour historical sites, including one of the world’s oldest salt mines in Wieliczka and the Auschwitz concentration camp.
The next session of the class begins May 9, 2017, at the Fordham Lincoln Center campus. The eight-day tour departs to Krakow at the end of May and returns in time for a final session at Lincoln Center, where students will present reflections on their excursion.
“You can theoretically learn from a book,” said Mierzejewska, “but being able to confront the information from a book with real-life experience enables you to have your own personal opinion. Books, they come from someone else’s evaluation and judgement. Can you be an expert in business without ever being near business?”
