Fordham University students who visited Hughes Hall recently were treated to a whirlwind trip around the world, courtesy of a rescheduled Global Business Showcase.
Stations set up around the lobby at Hughes Hall on Feb. 19 featured information about 20 countries, including Ghana, Germany, Italy, Brazil and China. A few snacks, indicative of the culture represented, were available, too.
The purpose of the event, initially scheduled to kick of International Business Week in early February, is to showcase the international diversity at the Gabelli School of Business, said Hani Francis, president of the International Business Association at the Gabelli School and a senior majoring in business administration.
“Fordham is becoming increasingly international,” Francis said, who came to the United States from Lebanon about 10 years ago. “The [undergraduate] international business program here … was ranked No. 7 in the country by Bloomberg Businessweek.”

The first time the Global Business Showcase was held two years ago, it was a success. Last year, the event was snowed out, but students this year weren’t going to allow more bad weather to shelve the event again. So the showcase was rescheduled, Francis said.
“We found it also to be a great way for Fordham students to come and learn about new cultures without leaving Hughes Hall,” Francis said.
