Fordham University Gabelli School of Business Welcomes 14 New Faculty Members for the 2022-2023 Academic Year

During an orientation held on Friday, August 26, 2023, the Fordham University Gabelli School of Business welcomed 14 new full-time and visiting faculty members, providing them with an introduction to the School and preparing them for the academic year ahead. They join Gabelli from across the country and around the world, bringing their expertise in emerging areas—from algorithmic trading and fintech to technological ecosystems and brand activism—to the classroom, building upon the teaching excellence and critical research that sets the School apart.

“We are thrilled to welcome this incoming group of faculty members who are thought leaders and innovators in their fields. Their knowledge, insights and experiences will serve to prepare Gabelli students in real-time for what is happening across the continuously evolving business landscape, affording them a distinct competitive advantage,” said N.K. Chidambaran, Ph.D., associate dean of research and faculty development, and associate professor of finance.

Aniko DeLaney – Lecturer of Marketing
Aniko DeLaney is a lecturer in the Marketing Area at Gabelli School of Business. She is a brand consultant at Oppenheimer & Co., where she is leading a strategic brand initiative. Prior to this role, DeLaney was head of Ultra High Net Worth Marketing for Bank of America’s Private Bank and Merrill’s Private Wealth Management. Previously, she served as CMO and global head of corporate marketing for BNY Mellon. She was responsible for BNY Mellon’s enterprise-wide corporate brand strategy, digital marketing and market research. DeLaney attended Middlebury College and the NYU Stern School of Business.

Jiaying Deng, Ph.D. – Assistant Professor of Information Technology and Operations
Jiaying Deng is an assistant professor in information technology and operations at the Gabelli School of Business. Her research interests include fintech, the sharing economy, and AI in digital platforms. Prior to joining Fordham University in 2022, she earned a bachelor’s degree from Shanghai University of Finance and Economics and a doctorate from the University of Washington.

Adam Gjesdal, Ph.D. – Visiting Assistant Professor of Law and Ethics
Adam Gjesdal is joining the Law and Ethics area as a visiting assistant professor. He previously taught at Chapman University and earned a doctorate in philosophy from the University of Arizona. His areas of specialization are political philosophy and normative ethics. Gjesdal is particularly interested in how our shared political institutions should respond to the fact of deep moral diversity that is a permanent feature of free societies. His work has appeared in leading academic publications including the Journal of the American Philosophical Association, Journal of Ethics and Social Philosophy, The Independent Review and Australasian Journal of Philosophy.

Zhe “Michael” Guo, Ph.D. – Assistant Professor of Accounting and Taxation
Michael Guo joined the Gabelli School of Business of Fordham University as assistant professor in the Accounting and Taxation area. His research focuses on corporate social responsibility (CSR) and executive compensation, aiming to understand the interplay between firms and their institutional environment (such as federal agencies, trade policies, institutional investors and auditors). He earned a doctorate in management (accounting) from the Questrom School of Business, Boston University. In addition, he earned an MBA from Darden School of Business, University of Virginia, and a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Tsinghua University in China. Prior to pursing a career in academia, he worked for seven years in the financial services industry in both the private and public sectors, in auditing, investment banking and grant management.

Zhe Han, Ph.D. – Clinical Assistant Professor of Marketing
Zhe Han is a clinical assistant professor of Marketing at the Gabelli School of Business. Before joining Fordham, he served as a visiting assistant professor at Tulane University where he taught numerous marketing classes, including “Research and Analytics” and “Advanced Marketing Strategy” among others, at both the undergraduate and the graduate level. Professor Han earned a doctorate from Emory University with an emphasis in quantitative marketing. He has done extensive research related to gamification and dynamic incentive schemes in marketing.

Dennis M. Hanno, Ph.D. – Clinical Associate Professor of Leading People and Organizations
Dennis M. Hanno is a higher education leader, educator and social entrepreneur. He has held numerous senior leadership roles at institutions of higher education, including just completing a more than seven-year term as the president of Wheaton College in Norton, MA. Prior to his time at Wheaton, Professor Hanno served as dean, provost and senior vice president at Babson College. Before that, he was associate dean of undergraduate matters at the Isenberg School of Management of the University of Massachusetts Amherst. His undergraduate degree in business is from the University of Notre Dame. He holds a master’s degree from Western New England University and a doctorate from the University of Massachusetts Amherst.

Seoyoung Kim, Ph.D – Assistant Professor of Marketing
Seoyoung Kim is an assistant professor in the Marketing Area at the Gabelli School of Business. She earned a doctorate in marketing from the University of Georgia in 2022. Her current research covers topics at the intersection of societal change and marketing strategy with a focus on digitization and brand activism. Professor Kim’s work has been published in the Journal of the Academy of Marketing Science and the International Journal of Advertising.

Zachary King, Ph.D. – Visiting Assistant Professor of Accounting and Taxation
Zachary King joins the Gabelli School of Business as a visiting assistant professor of accounting. He earned a doctorate in accounting from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He also holds a bachelor’s in finance from Rutgers University. Professor King’s research focuses on financial reporting and standard setting issues arising for internally developed and acquired intangible assets. He has presented his research at numerous conferences both domestically and internationally. His research also has been used by the Financial Accounting Standards Board in its deliberations about how to account for intangible assets acquired in a business combination.

Robert Kissell, Ph.D. – Clinical Assistant Professor of Finance and Business Economics
Robert Kissell is a clinical assistant professor, and the Finance and Business Economics area coordinator at the Gabelli School of Business. He has been with Fordham University as an adjunct professor since Fall 2015. He teaches classes in algorithmic trading, fintech and investment analysis. Professor Kissell is the author of several leading industry books and has published numerous journal articles. His paper, “Dynamic Pre-Trade Models: Beyond the Black Box,” won Institutional Investor’s paper of the year award in 2012, and his paper “Predictive Sports Analytics” won Northeast Business & Economics Association (NBEA) best paper award in 2019. He earned a doctorate in economics from Fordham University, a master’s in applied mathematics from Hofstra University, a master’s in business management and a bachelor’s of science in applied mathematics & statistics from Stony Brook University.

Stefano Manfredonia, Ph.D. – Visiting Assistant Professor of Finance and Business Economics
Stefano Manfredonia is a visiting assistant professor of finance at the Gabelli School of Business. He obtained a doctorate in economics and finance at the University of Rome Tor Vergata in 2021. While earning his Ph.D., he was a visiting scholar at the Einaudi Institute for Economics and Finance (EIEF), a visiting researcher at Fordham University and worked as a consultant for the International Fund of Agricultural Development (IFAD). His main research interest is in empirical corporate finance and banking.

Eugene Pyun, Ph.D. – Visiting Assistant Professor of Strategy and Statistics
Eugene Pyun joined Gabelli School of Business in 2022 after earning a doctorate and a master’s in management from McCombs School of Business from the University of Texas at Austin. His research interests consist of innovation and technology strategy. To be specific, he is interested in various technological dynamics that involve standardization and technological ecosystems. For example, his dissertation examines how standardization affects firms’ innovative activities within ecosystems by studying the Formula One motorsports industry. Professor Pyun also holds a master’s in strategy from Seoul National University and a bachelor’s in economics and political science from the University of Chicago.

William Sickles – Assistant Clinical Professor of Marketing
Bill Sickles is a senior lecturer in marketing at the Gabelli School of Business, focusing on “The Ground Floor,” the showcase business overview course for first-year business students.
Previously, he held a variety of sales leadership roles at Google NYC across domestic and global businesses over a 15-year career. Prior to Google, Professor Sickles had a career in national radio advertising sales management for Clear Channel, Katz Media and Interep. In addition, he worked in the Global Development Program at AT&T Network Systems, and as a marketing consultant/Mass Privatization Program for the Polish Ministry of Privatization in Warsaw, Poland. He holds a bachelor’s in marketing/finance from Fordham University’s Gabelli School of Business, and an MBA in marketing/international business from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University. He is a member of the Gabelli School of Business Advisory Board.

Ayse Yemiscigil, Ph.D. – Assistant Professor of Leading People and Organizations
Ayse Yemiscigil, is an assistant professor of organizational behavior at Fordham University’s Gabelli School of Business and a Research Affiliate with the Human Flourishing Program at Harvard University. Professor Yemiscigil’s research brings a humanistic lens to leadership development and management. Using an interdisciplinary approach, she studies how leaders cultivate humanistic ideals such as flourishing and wellbeing, meaning, purpose, and authenticity in themselves, organizations, and the broader society. Her research has been published in leading academic journals, including Psychological Science, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, and Harvard Business Review, and featured in The New York Times, Washington Post, and Wall Street Journal among other media outlets. She received her PhD from Warwick Business School and has been a postdoctoral research fellow at The Human Flourishing Program at Harvard University and Harvard Kennedy School’s Center for Public Leadership.
