As part of its mission and vision, the Fordham University Gabelli School of Business (GSB) Center for Digital Transformation provides opportunities for students, faculty members, and industry partners to better understand the role of digital technologies in accomplishing three fundamental transformations required for success in the marketplace. These include: individual transformation to create effective human capital in a changing global environment; business and industry transformation to promote competitiveness, productivity, innovation, and growth in the global marketplace; and societal transformation to build a sustainable global society.
Most recently, these goals and objectives have been achieved through the educational exchange of ideas and information with a major European university, and through a unique competition sponsored by one of the top consulting firms in the world.
On May 21, 2023 the Center for Digital Transformation hosted a group of students and faculty members from the Institute of Business Management, Hanze University of Applied Sciences, Groningen. The group was led by Bas Baalmans, Drs., project leader for the Groningen Digital Business Center of the University of Groningen—one of the top 100 universities in the world. They met with several Gabelli School of Business (GSB) specialized M.S. and M.B.A. students for lunch. Associate Dean of Global Initiatives and Partnerships, Francis Petit, Ph.D. discussed Fordham University’s history, its Jesuit traditions, and GSB business programs with the group. Professor W. Raghupathi, Ph.D. and Professor Aditya Saharia, Ph.D., discussed the Center of Digital Transformation’s research activities and innovative student projects.
This past March, the Center for Digital Transformation held its annual “March Data Crunch Madness,” during which student teams use their analytics skill to predict the outcome of the NCAA Basketball tournament using publicly available data. The competition is open to all Fordham students, although most participants are in the Gabelli School of Business (GSB) M.S. in Business Analytics and M.S. in Information Technology programs. This year, 19 teams started in the competition. After the initial phase of the competition, 10 teams were allowed to participate in its final stage. These finalists presented their work in an open forum held on March 31. A panel of GSB faculty members, alumni, and representatives of the competition’s sponsor, Deloitte—one of the top four consulting firms in the world, judged and ranked the teams based upon the analytics methods, tools, and presentation.
