Two career workshops for your October Wednesdays

If you don’t have afternoon plans for October 10 or October 17, maybe you do now.

The Gabelli School’s Personal and Professional Development Center has coordinated two workshops to help you secure an internship or job — and, in the case of internships, make the most of it when you get one.

Register in advance via GabelliConnect — there are active links below — for either or both of these sessions:

Title: Building a Professional Presence: Online and In Person
Date: Wednesday, October 10, 2012
Time: 2:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.
Location: Keating 3rd
Register: Click here

When an employer Googles you, what does he or she see? Are you confident that your in-person presentation will help you land the internship or job of your dreams? Are you using social media to connect to people professionally and to build your personal brand — or are you using it in a way that could hurt your job search? Learn how to take charge of your online presence by positively leveraging tools such as LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, blogging, and even commenting on blogs and news articles. Find out how to present yourself professionally over e-mail and face-to-face in this fun and interactive workshop.

Title: Making the Most of Your Internship
Date: Wednesday, October 17, 2012
Time: 2:30 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.
Location: Keating 3rd
Register: Click here

Get all the tips you need to make the most of your internship. This workshop will include:

  • Ways to make sure you impress your supervisor to get a great recommendation
  • How to ask for more work, or a higher level of work, when you run out of things to do
  • How to leverage your internship to find a mentor and expand your network
  • How to keep track of what you learn in your internship so that you can build a great résumé
  • Time for questions and answers
