10/2: Bloomberg editor-in-chief on truth and Twitter

matthew-winklerMatthew Winkler, editor-in-chief of Bloomberg News, will visit Fordham University on October 2, 2014 to discuss journalism in the digital age, and truth in news reporting. Winkler founded the global news service with Michael Bloomberg in 1990.

Truth in the age of Twitter” is co-sponsored by the Gabelli School of Business and Fordham College at Lincoln Center.

About the speaker:

Mr. Winkler received the 2012 Lifetime Achievement Award from the City University of New York Graduate School of Journalism, the 2007 Gerald Loeb Foundation Lifetime Achievement Award, recognizing “ exceptional career achievements in business, financial and economic news writing” and the 2007 National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences “Emmy” Lifetime Achievement Award for business and financial reporting.

Today, the company he co-founded employs 2000 editors and reporters in 150 bureaus serving North and South America, Europe and Asia. It provides content to 475 publications in 65 countries, including Bloomberg Television & Radio, a 24-hour network reaching more than 350 million households worldwide; Bloomberg.com; and BusinessWeek.com. It has received more than 600 awards for excellence and is a three-time finalist for the Pulitzer Prize.

Mr. Winkler is co-author of Bloomberg by Bloomberg (April 1997, John Wiley & Sons) and author of The Bloomberg Way: A Guide for Reporters and Editors, (Wiley). Between 1991 and 1994, he wrote the Capital Markets column for Forbes magazine. He was also a reporter for the Wall Street Journal, Barron’s, and news services of parent Dow Jones & Co. in New York and in London.

A native New Yorker, Mr. Winkler is a graduate of Kenyon College where he serves as a trustee. He is a member of several professional associations and is a trustee of the business journalism program of the City University of New York, director of the International Center for Journalists and chairman of the board of the Knight-Bagehot Fellowship Program at Columbia University.
