On April 9, 2014, the Smart Woman Securities Research Team presented their industry stock pitches at the seminar series.
The spring semester Research Team consisted of seven analysts, two senior analysts, Bailey Link (GSB ’16), Noelle Brennan (GSB ’15) and CIO Leona Lam. In the beginning of the semester, each analyst was assigned a sector to research and analyze in order to eventually pitch a stock for the team’s mock portfolio on StockTrak. Sectors included industrials, consumer discretionary, consumer staples, energy, technology, financials and healthcare.
The analysts submitted weekly updates on their sector’s performance, recent news within the sector and a variety of securities that the analyst wanted to investigate more closely. They also kept up to date on current events and the markets and applied what they learned at meetings to conduct their research. Each member was encouraged to utilize their Bloomberg certification.
The Research Team visited J.P. Morgan and the New York Stock Exchange. At J.P. Morgan, they networked with investment-banking professionals and learned the basics of fixed income. The New York Stock Exchange taught them about market analysis and the company’s operations.
Fordham Chapter founders, Nicole D’Souza (GSB ’13) and Candice Sorbera (GSB ’10), attended the session. Nicole, a fixed income analyst at J.P. Morgan Asset Management, was CEO of Smart Women Securities and founded the SWS Research Teams. Candice is an associate on the private equity team of Goldman Sachs and Co.’s Investment Management Division. She co-founded Fordham’s chapter of Smart Woman Securities.
