Rededication and Blessing of 140 W. 62nd

This past Wednesday evening, students, faculty, donors, and members of the Board of Trustees gathered to celebrate the rededication and blessing of the newly-renovated 140 W. 62nd Street building. The building, which formerly housed the law school, is now home to the Gabelli School of Business, Quinn Library, and Student Affairs.

The evening opened with the talented Tyler Tagliaferro, FCLC ’17, playing a melody on the bagpipes as two Fordham students stepped up to deliver a few opening remarks. Father Michael C. McCarthy then took command of the podium, as he led the attendees in prayer, followed by the President of the University, the Rev. Joseph M. McShane. Father McShane proceeded to bless the building just before pulling out a pair of scissors and cutting the ribbon for the rededication.

The building had been undergoing construction for approximately two years before this year’s grand opening, just in time for the 175th anniversary of the university.

“It has definitely been well worth the wait,” said Father Vincent Decola, assistant dean for the BS in global business, “especially for the fabulous, creative retrofitting of the law school for all of its new purposes.”

After the ribbon cutting ceremony guests were escorted either on tours or to the Garden Lounge, one of the new spaces that the building has to offer, where a reception was to follow.

“The building is a great resource for students,” said Daniel Patterson, associate director for transition year experience. “The new student programming space is positively changing the chemistry of what the Lincoln Center campus is all about.”
