Renowned scholar discusses faith, ethics and business

The challenges business professionals face and the realities and demands of faith traditions will be the focus of a presentation delivered by Professor Daniel K. Finn on Tuesday, March 4. Sponsored by The Curran Center for American Catholic Studies and the Gabelli School of Business, the talk is the second in a lineup of discussions during Professor Finn’s week-long residency at Fordham as the Visiting Chair in American Catholic Studies.

The Visiting Chair in American Catholic Studies brings to Fordham noted scholars in the field of American Catholic studies, Catholic theology, or Catholic ethics. The Chair’s purpose is to serve and enrich Fordham’s Jesuit, Catholic mission and identity by making it possible for members of the Fordham community to interact with scholars and teachers from a range of fields of study who are making influential contributions on topics related to U.S. Catholic thought and practice.

Professor Finn holds the William E. and Virginia Clemens Chair in Economics and the Liberal Arts at the University of Saint John’s, Collegeville, Minn.  An internationally respected economic ethicist, his authored and edited books include Christian Economic Ethics: History and Implications (2013), The True Wealth of Nations: Catholic Social Thought and Economic Life (ed., 2010), and The Moral Ecology of Markets: Assessing Claims about Markets and Justice (2006).

Fordham welcomes Professor Finn, who will be in residence March 3-7, 2014. The Tuesday luncheon lecture follows his inaugural talk titled “Building Better Economies: Why Popes and Economists Need to Talk” held on Monday, March 3 at 6:00 p.m. at Tognino Hall. He will also teach an IPED seminar and host a dinner on Wednesday, March 5 at 6:00 p.m. for interested undergraduates.
