Hitting the high points at Rose Hill Town Hall

TEDx, technology, and trading rooms were among the topics addressed at Dean Rapaccioli’s annual Town Hall at Rose Hill last month.

Students also had a chance to voice their comments, questions, and concerns about any aspect of their undergraduate business education.

If you weren’t able to attend Town Hall, here are the highlights:

• The Rose Hill Dean’s Council, led by Sal Cocchiaro, BS ’17, announced Fordham’s first TEDx event, “Roots of Change.” Featuring speakers from the Fordham community, it will take place this Wednesday, November 9, and you can still get tickets to attend the official livestream party.
• New concentration options are available to Rose Hill undergraduates, including a dual or secondary concentration in social innovation and three new secondary concentrations in niche areas of marketing.
• In response to student feedback, Integrated Project 2—the “career exploration” course—now will be taken in freshman year. A new alternative option for the junior-year Integrated Project 3 will focus on data analytics.
• Thanks to a push from the Dean’s Council, faculty members now are encouraged to offer undergraduates the chance to submit mid-semester feedback via informal course evaluations.
• CareerInsights is a relatively new tool provided by the University-wide Office of Career Services. Undergraduates should use it to report updates on their internship/job offers and acceptances.
• The second-floor study room in Hughes Hall now has two Bloomberg terminals to ensure that students have Bloomberg access even when there is class in the trading room.
• The new Gabelli School of Business building at Lincoln Center includes a trading room, innovation lab, rooms for group meetings, and more.
• Freshmen will be proud to learn that the Class of 2020 has the highest average standardized test score in school history, at 1302.

In her Town Hall address, Dean Rapaccioli also reminded students to take advantage of all of the Gabelli School’s resources, including one-on-one meetings with class deans or faculty, off-campus overnight retreats, the ongoing book club, case competitions, and PPD events.
