The Center on Asian Americans and the Law at Fordham Law School presents The Courtroom— a Waterwell production presented at the 2022 Tribeca Film Festival.
Adapted verbatim from court transcripts from a real-life case, The Courtroom follows the harrowing journey of Elizabeth Keathley (Kristin Villanueva) a Filipina immigrant who mistakenly registers to vote while on a K3 visa, a transgression punishable by deportation. Married with a newborn baby, Elizabeth, with the support of her husband and the tireless efforts of their lawyer, struggles to navigate an increasingly convoluted and nightmarish legal system.
After the screening, there will be a panel discussion that will delve into the issues raised by the case and the challenges faced by our immigration system. Please join us for a reception after the screening, discussion, and Q&A.
