September 29, 2022 @ 5:00 pm - 8:30 pm
Event Navigation
The Center on Asian Americans and the Law at Fordham School of Law invites all students at the Lincoln Center to a screening of the highly-acclaimed documentary Free Chol Soo Lee. A discussion and Q&A session will follow, led by Professor Thomas H. Lee and Judge Denny Chin.
Free Chol Soo Lee tells the story of a 20-year-old Korean immigrant who was wrongly convicted of a 1973 gangland murder in San Francisco Chinatown and of the grassroots movement to seek justice on his behalf that followed. A broad group of individuals—including a Korean-American journalist, conservative older Korean immigrants, and progressive young Asian American activists—came together to seek his freedom. The film also examines the challenges faced by formerly incarcerated individuals as well as the impact the case had on the Asian American civil rights movement and how it inspired many to pursue careers in social justice.
The film was first presented earlier this year at the Sundance Film Festival. You can learn more by watching the trailer.
Please join us for a reception after the screening, discussion, and Q&A.
