MWBE. Boutique Investment Banks Panel

The IBPEVCC and Graduate DEI Board invite all of the members to a large in-person event where we are going to be hosting professionals from MWBE owned Boutique Investment Banks which consists of an hour and a half Q& panel from the moderators and audience. The panel will involve a discussion moderated by Aaron Martins & Nicholas Hatzis from IBPEVCC. The discussion will cover insights about the respective firms, DEI efforts, and career paths of the different professionals. We will be joined by a multitude of investment banks including Academy Securities, Blaylock Van, Cabrera Capital Markets, Drexel Hamilton, Penserra Securities, Samuel A. Ramirez, RedTail Capital Markets and CastleOak Securities. The event will take place a Fordham Lincoln Center Law School Costantino RM 2-02; from 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm. We will be partnering up with the Diversity Equity and Inclusion Undergraduate and Graduate Boards for this event.

Martin Cabrera is the CEO and Founder of Cabrera Capital Markets (CCM) and Cabrera Capital Partners (CCP). Cabrera Capital Markets (CCM) provides global investment banking and institutional brokerage services to a substantial and diversified client base that includes financial institutions, states and municipalities, corporations, unions, foundations and endowments.

Michael Boyd is the Chief Compliance Officer (CCO) for Academy Securities, our nation’s first Post-9/11 veteran and disabled veteran owned and operated investment bank with strength in capital markets, public finance, fixed income and equity trading. Mr. Boyd served as an officer aboard a naval tank landing ship with deployments in the Middle East and East Africa, for which he was awarded the Southwest Asia Service Medal.

Louis DeCaro is the Senior Vice President and Head of Banking at Blaylock Van, LLC (BV). Blaylock Van, LLC (BV) is the longest continuously owned African American investment banking and financial services company in the US, providing personalized service for each client’s unique needs and financial goals. Mr. DeCaro oversees the corporate banking effort at Blaylock Van, LLC and has over 45 years of experience in the securities business in a multitude of functions.

John Martinko serves as President of Drexel Hamilton and is responsible for overseeing new business initiatives and opportunities. Drexel Hamilton is an investment bank 100% owned and operated by military Veterans who served in harm’s way from Vietnam to present day Iraq and Afghanistan. He previously served as a Managing Director responsible for the leadership and development of Drexel Hamilton’s Capital Markets Group.

Bob Hong is a senior member of the Capital Markets Group at Ramirez & Co. the first and oldest Hispanic-owned investment bank in the US and one of the nation’s top 10 managing municipal bond underwriters. Samuel A. Ramirez & Co. are involved in one in four negotiated bond transactions and are responsible for raising debt and equity capital for corporate and financial institution clients of the firm. Samuel A. Ramirez & Co., Inc. (“Ramirez”) is a nationwide, full-service investment bank, brokerage and advisory firm serving the needs of thousands of individual investors, business owners and top institutional investors, corporations and government agencies in the U.S. Since 1971, their mission has been to help clients succeed by executing with integrity, experience, teamwork, and performance.

Gigs Taylor-Stephenson is Senior Vice President and Head of Compliance at Redtail Capital Markets and brings over 25 years of industry experience in compliance training and education. RedTail Capital Markets is a Wall Street-based, Boutique Investment Bank. ​​Their team brings the financial market experience of former corporate development, treasury and capital market executives that understand the business needs of corporate senior leadership teams.

Jose Reyes and Rene Mijne are both Directors in the Capital Markets Group at Penserra Securities with over 25 years of investment industry experience. Penserra Securities who’s founder and owner is of Hispanic heritage is a leading boutique investment bank. The firm is an institutional financial services firm founded in 2007. They have offices located in New York, Chicago, Newport Beach, CA and the San Francisco Bay Area. Their services include Global Equity Trading, Fixed Income Trading, Fixed Income Trading, Investment Banking, ETF Sub-Advising, Active Investment Management, and Equity Research. Penserra is a certified Minority owned Business Enterprise Minority-Owned Business Enterprise (MWBE). The name Penserra is derived from the Spanish words “pensar,” which means “to think,” and “tierra,” which means “earth” or “land”.

CastleOak Securities L.P., is one of the oldest African American-owned boutique investment banks focused on the capital markets serving a broad array of corporate, governmental, and institutional clients. CastleOak has been a top-ranked MWOB Lead Manager of Agency, Corporate & ABS securities; top 35 underwriter overall. They are headquartered in New York City, the firm specializes in primary and secondary sales and trading of fixed income, equity, and money market securities.
