Michael Sansarran to speak at MLB conference in Houston

Areas of Study , Featured Events Sports Business | Jun 12, 2013 |

Last year, the Diversity Business Summit was the event that opened doors for Michael Sansarran (GSB ’13) into his career at Major League Baseball.

This year, Michael has been invited as one of the panelists!

Michael’s panel is titled “The Employment Perspective.” Having pursued a job at Major League Baseball with immeasurable passion, it’s a topic to which he can most certainly speak.

Though the conference will be held in Houston next week, making it relatively tough to get to for many Gabelli School students, any Rams who want to attend — especially those who happen to live in or within striking distance of Texas — are more than welcome to register. Simply follow this link, go through the registration process and use the promo code HOUSTON to reduce the entry fee for “job seekers” from $75 to $25.

Michael’s road to his current position in the baseball development department of the MLB commissioner’s office started long ago, through an internship with the MLB Fan Cave in Manhattan. Based on that experience, he took a risk and flew out to Chicago to attend last year’s iteration of the league’s Diversity Business Summit. He really wanted a full-time gig with the league, and it seemed worth the gamble on a plane ticket. It was: At the conference, he made the acquaintance of John Quinones, the league’s vice president of human resources.

“I must have made a very good impression on him, because he personally recommended me for a slew of internship opportunities within the organization just weeks after the event,” Michael recalled several months ago. “It was just a matter of time before they found a department right for me.”

Michael wants current Gabelli School students to consider that the same good fortune may befall them if they take a chance on networking events like this one. Anyone who attends also will have the benefit of learning from a very familiar panelist.
