Digital Business Society seeks new officers for 2013-2014

Areas of Study , IT / Information Systems Student Organizations & Clubs | Apr 08, 2013 |

There’s a new student organization on campus: the Digital Business Society.

Why? Because so many more jobs today are open to people who are into tech — and see ways to use it to be innovators.

The club is also looking for officers — read on for more information.

Digital Business Society activities, said outgoing president Juvoni Beckford (GSB ’13), will aim to “show people how technology can work for them, and not against them.”

The modern economy demands people who can understand and apply technology. The Googles of the world are not being started by people who find tech boring. Today’s students need to see a solution nobody else saw in a mobile app, or through cloud computing, or via a new product like Instagram or Snapchat that will draw in millions of users.

You can be that innovative person for your own business. Or you can be that innovative person on behalf of Ernst & Young, or Deutsche Bank, or McCann Erickson, or any other business out there — because good luck finding one that isn’t moving forward specifically because of technology.

Joining the Digital Business Society will get you in on the conversation. You’ll meet regularly with other students who understand why “getting it” with tech is the path to a great job. You’ll share ideas with them, and get ideas from their ideas.

You’ll also have other undergraduate and graduate students as your allies: The Digital Business Society has established connections with the club of the same name at Fordham’s Graduate School of Business Administration, and the university’s chapter club of the Association for Information Systems.

Present and future Digital Business Society activities include:

  • Hands-on workshops to build your computer skills
  • Networking events with professionals from tech start-ups to multinational firms
  • Opportunities outside Fordham to showcase your abilities and ideas
  • Co-sponsored events with other Fordham clubs in all fields in business

“The Digital Business Society wants to collaborate with the many clubs at Fordham, between both Rose Hill and Lincoln Center, to exemplify the vast reach, integrated and empowering force of technology applied to anything and everywhere,” Juvoni said.

Get involved: The club is looking for new officers, and applications are due on April 19. The positions available are:

  • President
  • Vice President
  • Secretary
  • Communications Coordinator
  • Technology Analyst
  • Business Analyst
