Further raising Fordham’s contribution to business scholarship and dialogue, Professor R.P. Raghupathi’s Center for Digital Transformation will launch on October 19, 2011 — with a special forum on analytics sponsored by IBM.

The Center for Digital Transformation joins Fordham’s 10 existing faculty centers, which are devoted to advancing research and inquiry in specific business disciplines. This new center is focused on the role of digital technology in our increasingly globalized and rapidly developing world, specifically on its capacity to advance society: promoting growth, raising the standard of living and reducing poverty.

Digital transformation is taking place in ways that captivate audiences beyond academics. Think about a Bangladeshi farmer who has begun using the Internet to trade in the commodities market, or the owner of a North Atlantic fishing company who uses environmental data and tracking software to optimize her catch. Digital transformation can happen on an enormous scale, too — consider the complex global supply chains that feed thousands of Wal-mart stores.

Dr. Raghupathi has begun establishing strong relationships with corporate partners and others who share the center’s aims. One of these is IBM, a company that historically has supported Fordham’s values of socially responsible business and of ongoing research and discovery. His center’s launch will coincide with the IBM Forum on Advanced Analytics.

Gabelli alumni who are interested in technology and society are strongly encouraged to attend the center’s launch and IBM forum. Here are the details:
