The Management Society may be newly established, but its members are moving quickly to make a name for themselves at the Gabelli School of Business.

Taking part in the Global Management Challenge ought to accelerate their progress.

“It is the largest strategy and management simulation competition in the world,” Management Society vice president Karan Gupta (GSB ’13) explained. “More than 450,000 university students and corporate executives have participated in the past 30 years.”

The Global Management Challenge is a case competition. A pre-seminar lays out the case contents, and the case itself is released to all the university teams at a prearranged time. Students then get down to work, developing the smartest solution they can. The judging committee selects a percentage of top U.S. teams to compete in the national round, and the victor of that round goes on to the international contest.

“It is, first and foremost, a great way to raise the public profile of Fordham University and the business school,” Karan said. What’s more, as the Management Society is a recent addition to the list of student organizations, the Global Management Challenge can help raise awareness, encourage membership and foster enthusiasm.

Until the competition begins, five Management Society members, including Karan, will be discussing the case study and other managerial issues so that they are prepared to face their competitors.

“Personally, I am thrilled to be competing in this challenge in my last semester at Fordham,” Karan said. “It will be a great opportunity for me to interact with some younger members of the Gabelli School. In my years at Fordham, I have always wanted to represent the school in such a manner.”

Karan and his teammates clearly will do their best to bring Fordham’s name to new heights. To learn more about the Management Society, which welcomes all new members, click here.
