Success story: Eamon Trebilcock hired as trading and operations intern

Finance Success Stories | May 07, 2013 |

Here at Fordham, we always talk about the vast internship opportunities that await students in New York City. Eamon Trebilcock (GSB ’16) is proving that Gabelli School students can find great value in internships close to home, too.

Eamon has accepted a summer internship in trading and operations at Federated Investors, based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He will work on the 19th floor of the Federated Tower, a prominent part of a skyline that became very familiar to Eamon growing up.

“Getting an internship close to home is really a great concept,” he said. “Many freshmen are not ready to give up their friends and families just yet, and doing an internship close to home allows the best of both worlds.”

Eamon plans to shift his focus to New York for internships after this one “because of the extensive amount of possibilities found here,” but Pittsburgh seemed like a great place to start out.

The Federated internship will put Eamon directly onto the trading floor. He’ll be challenged to learn about market operations, trading dynamics and rules and regulations. He will analyze data and prepare charts, reporting on cash swaps, futures contracts, options and other vehicles. The internship will span four months and require 45-hour work weeks.

Eamon expects his experience to provide a great segue into his upcoming semester of coursework. “Next year, I will be learning about fundamental concepts like stocks and bonds, which I will have actually traded on a live exchange,” he said. “I will have in-depth knowledge coming into sophomore year.”

Federated Investors sounds like a solid place for Eamon, a finance major with a minor in economics, to lay a foundation. The firm provides investment advisory and administrative services to more than 130 mutual funds and has about $360 billion in assets under management.

Good luck, Eamon!
