Success story: Kuba Kowalski lands IB internship at Citi

Kuba Kowalski (GSB ’14) always dreamed of working in investment banking at a large firm. And now, he’s getting his start.
Citigroup’s global investment banking division chose Kuba for an internship on its consumer products team, which — to give an illustration of its work — coordinated the acquisition of Cadbury by Kraft in 2010. From the firm’s office on Greenwich Street, Kuba will assist Citi bankers on projects that may include mergers and acquisitions and IPOs.
Earlier this fall, Kuba was the subject of a Bloomberg News article that drew an interesting parallel between his strong interest in finance and his love of tennis. (Kuba is an accomplished tennis player, turning in leading performances for the Fordham team and competing on the international circuit as well.)
That article may have helped him get the Citi internship. Soon after it was published, Kuba said, Citigroup invited him for an interview — and, clearly, he was a success in that venue as well.
A native of Poland, Kuba said he will look for opportunities at Citi to get involved with projects that connect to his homeland. “I hope I will get a chance to work with the Central European markets and to use my knowledge of the area, language and their business culture,” he said.
We hope so, too. Congratulations, Kuba, and best wishes for a successful experience!
