Success story: Michael Gamber starts work with Morgan Stanley

Michael Gamber (GSB ’13) has been told that nine of 10 people who start his program don’t make it to the end.
No matter. Mike knows that he’s going to be the one.
Morgan Stanley’s financial advisor associate program is a 36-month track designed to train and develop new financial advisors who work directly with clients to help them manage their money. It’s also clearly designed to winnow out candidates who don’t have what it takes.
Why is Mike so confident that he does? Because he has spent time working in the field. He first was a wealth-management intern at the Swiss bank UBS. Then he got an internship with Wells Fargo through The Burke Group, where four Fordham alumni mentors helped him to cultivate his skills.
What’s more, he has a passion for the role.
“I always knew I wanted a job that would allow me to work in finance but also to help people firsthand,” Mike said. “Becoming a financial advisor would let me have both. I would be able to help my clients plan their retirement, set a savings plan for their kids’ college fund or just save and grow their money in general.”
“With the Burke group, I learned the proper way to treat clients and how to recognize and cater to each individual’s unique financial needs,” he added.
His degree in finance from the Gabelli School in hand, Mike is ready to take on the demands of Morgan Stanley. Over the course of his time there, he will sharpen his knowledge of the industry, gain practice in working with clients and gradually build up his own book of business.
“I believe with the training I’ve received through my internships and my classes at Fordham, I will have no problem becoming a successful financial advisor one day,” he said.
