Success story: Nevin Kulangara chosen as KPMG audit-metro intern

We all have brands we return to, time and again. Perhaps nothing goes with your breakfast cereal quite like Tropicana. Maybe you’ll only put Castrol oil in your car.

Nevin Kulangara (GSB ’15) is quickly developing a brand loyalty of his own — but in his case, the brand has chosen him.

Having completed KPMG’s Future Diversity Leaders Program in Los Angeles and KPMG’s Discover program, Nevin has been offered an internship in KPMG’s audit-metro division. Congratulations, Nevin!

KPMG’s diversity leadership conference in Hollywood brought Nevin together with 74 other college students from around the United States, with whom he participated in leadership-training sessions run by KPMG staff. He had the chance to network with KPMG contacts both there and, subsequently, at the Discover program, where he also interviewed for the summer 2013 internship program. That interview was clearly a success.

“What I really like about KPMG is the people I’ve met there,” said Nevin, an accounting major with a concentration in finance. “Everyone seems to strike that ideal balance of professionalism and friendliness. It just seems like a great place to launch my career.”

Nevin chose accounting as a major because “it’s such a solid foundation for a career in business. I think accounting as a whole is an attractive major because it is so versatile.”

We’re sure that Nevin will prove his own versatility to KPMG as he begins his internship in the firm’s New York office in the summer. Good luck from all of us here at the Gabelli School!
