Success story: Dylan Henne receives PwC internship

Accounting , Areas of Study Success Stories | Apr 16, 2013 |

The Big Four are such accounting icons that they can sometimes seem like a collective whole.

But professionals know that each firm has its own distinct corporate culture — which makes this recent career accomplishment even more valuable.

Having already completed a fall KPMG internship in London, Dylan Henne (GSB ’14) has landed a summer 2013 internship at PwC.

In asking for professional advice, “I always hear, ‘It’s all about fit,'” Dylan says. “I am very lucky to work with more than one of the Big Four firms. My experiences will allow me to make the best possible decision when I eventually ask myself, ‘Where do I want to work?'”

That fit goes beyond corporate culture, and includes the accounting niche that suits Dylan best. At KPMG, he worked in international tax, with Barclays as a primary client. At PwC, he will be in internal firm services, focusing on the intricacies of life at PwC itself and making sure that any difficulties his colleagues face are successfully smoothed over.

“It is the department that makes it work for the people who make it work for our clients,” as he phrases it.

“I felt this was the perfect fit for me because it would allow me to fully understand the operations and functional units within the accounting firm,” he explains. He will get an insider’s view of what the audit and advisory functions do, for example, “which will hopefully allow me to decide whether I wish to pursue tax further, or perhaps venture to another side of accounting.”

No matter which firm and specialty ends up calling Dylan most strongly in the future, there’s no doubt his time at KPMG and PwC both will contribute to the calculation.
