Sharing her perspective on business, Ellen Alemany, MBA ’80, CEO and chairwoman of the commercial finance company, CIT Group, will be the Gabelli School’s 2019 graduate diploma ceremony speaker.

Alemany will be recognized by the Fordham University board of trustees for her distinguished career in banking, her commitment to fostering economic opportunities in underserved communities and her continued desire to undertake challenges.

She had an illustrious career in banking, which began in 1976 at Chase Manhattan and advanced to several executive banking positions including CEO of Citi Global Transaction Services, and CEO and chair of RBS’s Citizens Financial Group. Alemany retired in 2013 but was lured back into the working world by the considerable challenge to turn-around CIT. In 2016, she left retirement to lead the ambitious transformation of CIT. Under her leadership, CIT made the turn-around into a profitable middle-market bank.

Alemany has made noteworthy contributions to both corporate and community endeavors to promote financial literacy. In addition, she recently came back to Fordham and spoke to Gabelli students about commitment, continuous learning and engaging with community on March 26th.

Her honorary doctorate of humane letters will be presented at the Gabelli School of Business diploma ceremony for master’s candidates at 4 p.m. on May 20th in the Lombardi Field House on the Rose Hill campus.
