GSB alumna talks investments at recent SWS seminar

Investment was the topic of the Smart Woman Securities (SWS) seminar on October 1, 2014, presented by Alexis Summit (GSB ‘14), a valuation analyst at Duff & Phelps.
As a student, Ms. Summit served as Chief Investment Officer of SWS from for two years. She taught the club’s associates about personal finance and how to pitch stocks and managed the SWS virtual portfolio. During her tenure, she and her team surpassed 42 teams to win second place at the National Stock Pitch Competition.
During her presentation to SWS associates, Ms. Summit shared real-life examples, using sec.gov to open the 10-k for Monster Beverage Corporation, the stock she pitched at the National Stock Pitch Competition. She identified the key financial ratios that help investment analysts compare companies and explained how to evaluate companies like The Coca-Cola Company and Stryker Corporation. Ms. Summit also outlined the importance of capital expenditures and offered helpful hints for job interviews and technology use.
On Wednesday, October 8, the Seminar Series continues with a resume workshop by Kelly Heimrich of Credit Suisse. It will be held at 7:30 in Faculty Memorial Hall 216.
