As a reputable New York City school, rooted in the Bronx, with a venerable presence in Lincoln Center, it’s no surprise that the Gabelli School of Business is recognized as a home for highly motivated business students, talented faculty members who are leaders in their academic fields, and generous alumni who don’t forget their roots.

Year after year, the Gabelli School has also attracted business leaders from within the community and the global stage, who have shared powerful career insights and offered valuable – and oftentimes candid – advice to our students.

Among our impressive list of local and global guests who came to campus this past year were Dan Schulman, CEO of PayPal; Ellen Alemany, CEO and Chairwoman of CIT Group; Lidia Bastianich, Entrepreneur and Restaurateur; Jay Clayton, U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman, the Hon. Paulo Gentiloni, prime minister of Italy from 2016 to 2018; and Joseph Stiglitz, PhD, Nobel Laureate – Economics. Mario Gabelli, chairman and CEO of GAMCO Investors, Inc., and the namesake of the school, also makes frequent appearances – bringing friends and industry colleagues like Leon Cooperman, chairman and CEO Omega Advisors, to speak with the students.

Ellen and Mario are just two of the 40,000+ alumni around the world willing to give back, with a deep understanding of how serving others can change lives. As the only Jesuit business school in New York City, the Gabelli School combines a higher sense of social responsibility with interdisciplinary studies – all in an environment that values academic excellence. And, our alumni base responds in kind.

“Students have the chance to network all over the city and meet with Fordham alumni and business sponsors. Our New York City location also allows them to benefit from year-round internship opportunities, even beyond the popular summer season. They’re also just steps away from many full- and part-time job opportunities” said Cynthia Bush, director of career advising for undergraduate students.

The Gabelli School of Business also extends to London, a major European commercial and multicultural center, where students can take classes toward completing their degree while gaining relevant experience in international business and global business connections. Since our London Centre moved to a new, state-of-the-art, renovated building in 2018, we have seen an increase in students looking to gain global, multi-cultural business experience and participating in the semester abroad program.

The Gabelli School is on the rise. In this year’s rankings, U.S. News and World Report ranked the Gabelli School’s undergraduate business program as #8 in international business, #15 in finance and #15 in marketing; Poets & Quants ranked the school #27 in undergraduate business. Businessweek also recognized the Gabelli School for being in the top 20 nationwide for highest starting salaries of students after graduation.

With longstanding relationships across 2,600+ companies spanning various industries, 94% of students in 2018 were placed in full-time jobs within 6 months of graduation. In fact, our graduating class of 2018 were hired by many prestigious companies including Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, EY, PWC, JPMorgan Chase & Co., BlackRock, Barclays, and Yelp.

Networking with alumni remains one of several ways that students obtain internship and job opportunities. Poets & Quants ranks the Gabelli School as #8 nationwide in alumni connections to jobs. “Gabelli has provided me incredible opportunities to meet and network with a broad range of alumni. They have all been extremely supportive and willing to help someone from Fordham, I have been able to embrace this and learn a lot from their experiences and advice” said Zara Jilling, Gabelli ‘20.

The Gabelli School maintains a formidable presence in business but always has an eye toward the future – enhancements to curriculum are made to provide students with the most relevant and technologically advanced skills.

“We are proud of where we are today and looking forward to our future innovation, growth and success. Our strong foundation in educational excellence, innovation, Jesuit convention and a significant global alumni base, coupled with the dedication and determination of your children, the opportunities that the Gabelli School of Business affords are endless” said Lerzan Aksoy, associate dean of undergraduate studies.
