Success story: Abigail Harman completes summer internship at UBS

This summer, Abigail Harman’s to-do list included organizing UBS’s annual customer service seminar with the Ritz Carlton, creating presentations for regional sales meetings and learning about wealth management as an intern in the firm’s Wealth Management Advisor Group in New York City.
“We focused on recruiting and analyzing the productivity of 18 offices in the metropolitan region,” Abigail said.
Until recently, this applied accounting and finance major planned on a career in accounting. During her sophomore year, Abigail interned at Batyr & Company, and that experience helped her determine that although accounting is one of her strengths, she prefers the more fast-paced environment of finance.
“I realized my passion for the financial markets through Smart Woman Securities, an organization that educates students about finance and investing,” she added. Her coursework and participation in this student club turned out to be great preparation for the UBS internship in terms of background knowledge and networking skills.
“The summer internship gave me the opportunity to get a sense of the UBS’s culture and experience working on a team,” Abigail said. “My boss regularly asked for my input and encouraged me to share my ideas at meetings. Everyone treated me as a member of the team, not as an intern. I loved going to work every day.”
