140 West 62nd St, New York, NY

On December 7, 2022, the Fordham University Gabelli School of Business will host CNBC Senior Media and Tech Correspondent, Julia Boorstin, who will discuss her recently published book, “When Women Lead,” during a fireside chat moderated by Interim Dean Lerzan Aksoy. The talk, presented by Fordham Women in Business, a Gabelli School student organization, will focus on themes within the book that reveal the key commonalities and characteristics, which help top female leaders to thrive as they innovate, grow businesses, and navigate crises including: leading with empathy, embracing change, and creating new communities.

Boorstin was just 13 years old when her mother told her that, by the time she grew up, women could be just as powerful as men, “captains of industry, running the biggest companies.” Unfortunately, when it comes to gender equity, conditions have not changed as much as her mother had hoped. But women leaders all over the world are succeeding, not in spite of but, because of their unique strengths and personality traits.

Creator of CNBC’s Disruptor 50 franchise, Boorstin argues that gender equity shouldn’t be a pipe dream, even if women face massive social and institutional headwinds, and struggle with double standards. She will share her groundbreaking and deeply reported narrative work incorporating the stories of hundreds of female executives, revealing the counterintuitive, against-all-odds approaches of women running the world’s most innovative (and successful) companies, and what we can learn from them.

Join us for what is sure to be an inspiring and informative discussion. All are encouraged and welcome to attend.
