Richard (Rick) L. Treanor, Ph.D., Partner, Oblon, McClelland, Maier & Neustadt LLP
Rick Treanor is the parent of Jack Treanor, a Gabelli School of Business senior, and Ricky Treanor, a Gabelli freshman. He is a patent lawyer and a partner at Oblon, a full-service intellectual property law firm in Virginia, where he chairs the chemical patent prosecution group and co-chairs the patent prosecution group. His practice deals with opinions, counseling, litigation, and other prosecution matters. Working with both foreign and domestic clients, he helps to identify patentable products and design-around competitor patents in order to obtain broad protection for his clients’ innovations.
Rick was formerly an examiner in the Special Laws Administration division of the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Before practicing law, Rick pursued doctoral studies in chemistry. Prior to practicing law, Rick earned a National Academy of Sciences/National Research Council Fellowship and conducted postdoctoral studies in the field of nanostructures at the Biomolecular Science and Technology Center of the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory.
Rick is currently registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and the Supreme Court of Virginia.
Rick graduated cum laude from Columbus School of Law with his J.D., earned his Ph.D. with distinction in organic chemistry at Georgetown University, and received his B.S. from Fairfield University.
