A sophomore entrepreneur is back, better than ever

Please welcome Emily Raleigh (GSB ’16) back to the dance floor.

This sophomore entrepreneur is the brain behind the Smart Girls Group, one of only three student ventures nationwide to win a grant last spring from the Kenneth Cole Foundation. Her group aims to connect bright, ambitious young women all over the country with one another and with established female role models.

Emily and her two Kenneth Cole co-winners bested a slate of competitors from other prestigious schools all over the United States, winning the attention of Mr. Cole, who is well known not only for fashion, but also for social entrepreneurship.

This month, grant in hand, Emily relaunched her company in full.

What does that mean for Smart Girls Group? An enhanced online magazine, called the Smart Girl’s Guide, and a serious slate of new features: online classes, a new campus chapter program, and an interactive online community. Visit the site to see for yourself!

Emily’s next step is to try to double her membership. She currently has more than 250 Smart Girls signed on, representing 39 U.S. states and 12 countries. The goal is to enroll 250 more by January 1, 2014.

Are you the next one?

Congratulations to Emily from all of us at Fordham on your relaunch, and good luck!
