PPD hosts Mock Interview Week

Last week, Gabelli’s Personal and Professional Development (PPD) department held its first Mock Interview Week, a program aimed to improve students’ interview skills and connect them with employers.
The program brought employers from varying industries on campus to hold mock interviews with students. The employers conducted behavioral interviews with students and provided feedback. The objective was for students to learn how to answer interview questions so that they best presented their experience and skills. Deutsche Bank, Target, RBC Capital Markets, KPMG and TD Bank were the employers represented this week.
The program was spearheaded by Cynthia Bush, the Director of Undergraduate Career Advising. It is one of her first initiatives since joining the Gabelli School of Business staff this year.
According to Bush, the intention of the program was to raise awareness to the value of mock interviewing. “By combining a variety of employers and really marketing [the event] I was hoping to raise awareness and get students to take advantage of great resources offered,” said Bush.
The program has already proven to be an overwhelming success, according to Bush. So many students signed up that they had to create a waitlist for interview slots. Based on employer and student feedback, PPD will be offering Mock Interview Week again.
“It’s so wonderful to see so many of our students getting involved and taking advantage of the employers that are willing to participate,” said Bush. “I am thrilled…it is improving students’ capability to interview.”
