The competition, which featured original 30- to 90-second videos about international experiences, real or imagined, showcased the global focus of the Gabelli School of Business. For LeBranti, it was a chance to show that learning overseas goes miles beyond the classroom.
“As a business student, it was great to study in a country with such an appreciation for the arts. It was great to expand my horizons and take courses that I would have never taken at Fordham,” LeBranti said.
LeBranti won a $500 gift card from United Airlines for her entry.
“Aside from classes, studying abroad completely changed me as a person. I met incredible people, experienced many different cultures, and gained a new-found appreciation for how truly lucky I am,” LeBranti said. “The Italian culture really taught me how to relax and enjoy life for what it is.”
Both undergraduate and graduate students entered the contest.
Jodie Chan, BS ’16, who filmed her experience in New Delhi, India, won second place. The third-place winner was David Salazar, MSMM ’16, who visited Krakow, Poland.
Chan and Salazar both won $100 Amazon gift cards.
Videos could be entered in any of the following categories:
- A current study abroad or international experience
- A past study abroad or international experience
- A hypothetical international or study abroad experience that a student has never had, but would like to have in the future
The winning videos, plus eight honorable mention entries, were screened during International Business Week in November before a team of judges. All of the videos can be found here.
“The creativity of our students submitting the videos for the competition was truly inspiring and impressive,” said Associate Dean Lerzan Aksoy, who served as one of the judges. “As I was going through them, I was looking for a skillful combination of visual beauty and emotional appeal with how the study tour experience changed the students’ outlook on life.”
