The Fordham Marketing Association won three awards at this year’s American Marketing Association International Collegiate Conference.
The FMA won first place in the exhibit competition for the Best Display of Conference Theme. The group also won prizes for Outstanding Chapter Planning and Outstanding Professional Development.
Playing off this year’s exhibit competition theme, “Mint Your Future,” FMA created a game-style experience that took “players” from intern to CEO.
The conference, held annually in New Orleans, brings together college marketing chapters for guest lectures, networking activities, and competitions. Speakers this year included Peter Horst, senior vice president and chief marketing officer of The Hershey Company and Monica L. Skipper, vice president of brand experience marketing of FedEx Services.
This year more Fordham students participated than ever before. Attending were Rebecca Sutcliffe, BS ’16, Vincent Tsai, BS ’16, Will Kerwick, BS ’17, Yuliana Veyberman, BS ’16, Belma Kolayli, BS ’17, Jackie Herlan, BS ’17, and Sean Todd, FCRH ’19.
While at the conference, the FMA members held a Hand2Hand Supply Drive, collecting school supplies to give to a New Orleans school that is still suffering from the damage caused by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. This was the third consecutive year that the Fordham group sponsored the drive.
“When I first went to the conference during my freshman year, I saw a bunch of school supplies being thrown away at the end,” Sutcliffe recalled. “I thought, ‘That is not what Dorothy Day would do,’ so we should do something about it.”
